The Coronally Advanced Flap
In some cases, when there is an abundance of Attached Gingiva (the pink gum around the tooth or below the recession) it may be possible to cover exposed roots without having to take tissue from the palate. A gum flap is simply “raised” up (or down) over the area of recession and sutured in place. A “biologically active” protein is often used to help with the healing. This surgical approach avoids the need for a second surgical site and so healing 8is much easier.
